Most people don't want to go out and spend 500 dollars on a satellite system and then deal with the headache of it going down every couple months. I've been there, I've got 4 satellites attached to my house right now. At first I went legit, and went with a legal system and paid the regular monthly fee and everything.

Every couple of months the system would get zapped and my satellite would be down. I would have to call my satellite guy and get him to come fix it. Sometimes it was simple to just enter the keys, or take the receiver to my computer and just update the files, but eventually this got pretty annoying.
